In which is theological brain stretching

by Craig on March 26, 2015

With some humility
albeit a forced humility
forced by the hand of reality…

admittedly, the words on these pages are no longer read by many, but the ones who read them are special to me. This isn’t a fancy post, but one that might stretch your theological brain

because it stretched mine

and I like to share.

The next post on the Magnificat will be a little about Bible translations and the Septuagint and the way I am conducting my study – rather – the way we will be conducting our study. Because the precious few of you that there are will sharpen me just as this one comment on this one post from the past did.

So…

if you’d like to stretch your theological brain, just go back to this post about Clement of Alexandria, and the last comment, by a man named Andrew. It makes me smile to think of how he made me stretch my theological brain, challenge my thinking and wording. It was so good that I don’t want it to be buried, because I think you might like the way it stretches your theological brain. And maybe you might have something to add that we hadn’t considered.

Oh, I wish I had something to add, Craig, but my theological brain is only one step beyond pablum. I simply try to read God’s Word and allow it to speak to me where I am.
Love that you are back to blogging, and hope you will be doing so more and more in the future!
Love and blessings!

I can’t say I’m really back to blogging. I love to study. I love to share. I write pretty much for just the few of you who have been kind enough to stick around. And just you wait and see. As we go through this you are going to come up with some truly profound discoveries. I know this. You have already proven this to me. It’s your perspective, what you get from God’s word as it speaks to you where you are, different from my perspective, added to my perspective, that I am truly looking forward to. God bless and keep you Martha.

BTW – I just left this comment on your blog, I don’t think it took. Just in case, you can read it here. It’s about the post on your dad…

I can think of some times I made my mom proud, I can think of more times that I tried her patience. I remember mostly the accomplishments of her heart – that’s where my major accomplishments have been. That’s a nice reminder that you just gave me – thank you. I can barely hear her voice because it’s been so long, but I believe that she is still alive, even though dead, just as you do with your dad. God Bless and keep you Martha.

It can be challenging to read another’s words that are not something that you’ve thought about. I’m going to continue to chew over these words.

Michelle, you’ll have to take my word on this… But I just finished writing a nice, long, detailed, reply to you… And it got eaten up somehow… And I’m a little tired right now, and I don’t want to think that hard again. I will if you ask me. But maybe just trust me that it was a really good response ツ God bless and keep.

Thank you, my grandson, for stretching my brain and touching my heart. Look for a letter—at long, long last.

Swimming around in stuff like this makes me happy – it makes me doubly happy to have someone to share that which I find. Thank you Debbie for being one such person from the very beginning. God bless and keep you and yours.

Craig, I am in a theologically brain-stretching mode’ right now, so I am really looking forward to reading what you have to share. I am glad I went back to your post about Clement (and loved the description of ‘scampering about the Septuagint’…smiles. I somehow missed a few of those posts so I will go back and root around there as well as read here!
